Robotics
Objectives:
- Finish at least 10 of the training exercises in the Common Palette.
- Keep a journal of each palette you complete.
- Write a brief report about your project.
Materials:
- Lego Robotics Mindstorms NXT program
- Computer
- NXT Robot (found on Mr. MacPherson's desk)
- NXT and sensors (check with Mr. MacPherson when you need them)
- USB cable
Procedure:
Step 1: Get set up
- Click on the “File Explorer” icon on the desktop. (bottom of the screen)
- Click on the arrow in front of This PC and choose the Home Drive (U:)
- Choose New Folder from the top of the page. .
- Name the folder “yourclass_robotics” Example 7A_robotics.
- Now exit all boxes that you have open on your screen.
Step 2: Getting Started
"A structured introduction to programming for those just starting out."
- Start the Mindstorms NXT program by double clicking on on the desktop icon.
- Choose Getting Started to see a quick introduction to the basics.
- Next choose the Software Overview.
- Begin the Robot Educator - Common Pallette
- When you have completed the Common Palette 1, exit the Mindstorms program and open the Microsoft Word program to begin a journal.
- Remember, you must make a journal entry after each Palette is complete.
Step 3: Journal
For this module you will keep a journal of your progress. At the end of each palette mission you must write a brief paragraph explaining what you did and what youlearned.
- Start the Microsoft Word program.
- Make a title page with your names, the date started and the module name.
- Press enter until you move down to page 2.
- On the top of page 2 begin your journal entry for Common Palette 1.
- When finished, save the file in your folder as Journal and return to the Mindstorms NXT program and complete the next Palette.
- After completing each palette, return to your journal and add another paragraph. (Please skip a line between paragraphs)
Step 4: On Your Own
When you have completed 15 of the Common Palette exercises, you may begin programming the robot however you like.
Use your imagination to program the robot to perform tasks that you choose.
Step 5: Write a Report
Don't forget to write a report when you complete this module. At the end of your Journal, add a paragraph or two and include the following information.
- Did you enjoy the project and why?
- Which part of the project did you enjoy the most and Why?
- What was the hardest part of the project? Why?
- What did you Learn?
